She would prepare breakfast for the household help, prepare a big kadhai of dal and rice for the homeless below - and that, after a morning walk and a swim in the lakes! My other favourite was the poRa amer s'rb't that Jhorupishi mother used to serve on sultry summer afternoons. I think for a Bengali, nostalgia about eating (/out), particularly in Kolkata, is only second to actually eating.Pratik Ghosh, Mauritiusnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2127740.post-38047376267531358262010-04-04T11:56:29.060+05:302010-04-04T11:56:29.060+05:30As usual enjoyed the write-up `gastro-sexual escap...As usual enjoyed the write-up `gastro-sexual escapades'. It transported me to almost 50 years ago,
when Jharnaboudi, still very much a baarhir notun bow, used to often entertain me on the top
floor of #62 with a fair of topshey maach bhaaja, langda aam and other regular dishes. She knew
my weakness for `koshito konoko kaanti komoniyo kaaye, mukhbhaura ghonfdaarhi toposshir praaye',
and whenever Gariahat Mkt had a good supply, I would receive a 'phone call, `bappa aaj raattirey
choley esho' and I would immediately know why. We spent many wonderful evenings thus. You
may or may not remember, it was your very early childhood. My leaving Cal in 1969 brought to
an end all those fabulous days of my life. Like you I yearn for them no less.DCVM, Bangalorenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2127740.post-23379779053318695122010-04-04T09:12:04.050+05:302010-04-04T09:12:04.050+05:30Gosh, it was fun reading.
